NEW YORK (AP) A driver who was running toward officers after he was pulled over for a broken tail light got out of his car and jumped into a police cruiser, and the officer chased him, according to a police video.
The dashcam video, posted to YouTube on Saturday, shows the chase starting on the West Side Highway near the intersection of West 125th Street and East 116th Street, with the driver still running toward the police car.
As the officer approaches the intersection, the driver turns toward the officer and says, “Get down!”
The officer yells, “He’s down!” the video shows.
The officer then gets out and runs into the street, with his gun drawn.
As they chase, the man continues to run toward them.
The video shows the officer using his Taser on the driver as he continues to get away from the police.
At one point, he tells the driver, “I’m not going to shoot you, I’m not doing that.”
But the driver keeps running toward them, and a bystander yells, “…
I just shot you!
You’re in danger!”
The man is then hit in the chest and left arm.
He is then taken to an ambulance, where he was treated and released.
Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said the driver’s family has been notified.
The New York Police Department has said it is investigating.
